Our legacy
The seed of Aurobindo Vidyamandir was sown in 1976 by visionary members of the Jadavpur University Alumni Association, Durgapur Branch. Under the leadership of Sri Tripurari Chatterjee and with valuable contributions from Lt. Sri Ramlal Banerjee and a team of dedicated founders, the idea of an English-medium school for the children of Durgapur became a reality.
The name Aurobindo Vidyamandir was suggested by Dr. Gokul Mukherjee, then General Manager of Alloy Steel Plant, to honor Sri Aurobindo’s connection with education — as he was once the Principal of the National Council of Education, later Jadavpur University.
From its humble beginnings at 2A, Kanishka Road, the school expanded to its permanent campus on Harshabardhan Road in 1984, where it continues its educational journey with a refreshed vision and modern facilities.
